HLTAID003 – Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Volume of Learning
Pre-course online underpinning knowledge typically will take 2-3 hours. This comprises – learning material and quizzes to ensure you are equipped with the theoretical knowledge prior to commencing the classroom practical session.
The practical session comprises firstly of HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This is a 2-3 hour session requiring an element of physical activity performed on CPR Manikins.
HLTAID002 – Provide basic emergency life support will be clustered with HLTAID003 – Provide first aid following the CPR session and will be 5-8 hours in total depending on your level of expertise in administering first aid.
Course Contents
A candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of these units, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

Course Outcome
Candidates that successfully complete all requirements of the course and assessment will receive:
- Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
- HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- HLTAID002 – Provide basic emergency life support
- HLTAID003 – Provide first aid
- HLTAID003 – Provide first aid will remain current for 3 years from the issue date
- It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council that CPR training be completed at least every 12 months.

There are no pre-requisites for this course, but pre-course requirements are required to be undertaken.
